Kit Wright has been a popular guest at Poetrywivenhoe in recent years, and we are delighted that he will be reading his inimitable poetry for us next week. Kit is a poet for adults and for children; as the latter, he has visited well over a thousand schools. He has published a number of volumes of prize-winning poetry; these have been awarded the RSL’s Heinemann Award, the Hawthornden Prize for Literature, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award and the Poetry Society’s Alice Hunt Bartlett Award. Latest collection: Ode to Didcot PowerStation. Coming up: Torpedo Justice. All we can hope for is that he remembers to bring some of his books with him for sale (he has been known to leave them, inadvertently, back at home on some occasions). We are so looking forward to his visit.

Likewise David Canning is one of our favourite poets; he is based in Colchester and performs mostly around Essex and Suffolk, but has also performed at events in Winchester and London. David is a member of the Colchester Mosaic Poetry Group, and is active in the Essex Poetry Festival. His debut collection An Essex Parish was one of the Essex County Standard Top Ten books of 2015. His pairing with Kit Wright should make for a memorable evening.

Congratulations to Peter Kennedy on having a second ‘poem for europe’ (his first appeared one year ago) published in The New European (January 11-17 2018).

And congratulations to our Poetrywivenhoe colleagues who have each had a Poem for Europe published in The New European: Alex Toms and Tim Cunningham who has appeared twice, in August 10-16 and again in November 23-29. What a splendid trio!
