We missed a day yesterday, but the website rises phoenix-like, and today will be Day 563 of the daily poems. Forty years ago yesterday, on 18 June 1984, it was the Battle of Orgreave. At the same time the gates of Wivenhoe Port were picketed, where freighters carrying imported coal had begun to unload and the aim of the pickets was to turn back the lorries. There was a tense, and often violent, “intersection” between miners (supported by students of Essex University) and police. Colin Pink our poet today describes another intersection: Summer and Courtship.
Intersection
At the intersection is where we meet
Each crossing over to greet the other
Desire makes our conjunction sweet
At the intersection is where we meet
Our time together is precious but fleet
There are so many things to discover
At the intersection is where we meet
Each crossing over to greet the other
