Day 666 – Not everything can be counted (Marriage)

Our poet today Alwyn Marriage reveals treasures that, rather than being buried, can never be enumerated: and it is Day 666 of the daily poems.

Not everything can be counted

I start to count,then realise
there are many treasures that
can never be enumerated:
the tiny flowers of the moor
that even in fearsome weather
emerge from stone or sward
to prickle the earth with colour;
stars that completely cover
the night sky but then miraculously
discover spaces in which to flaunt
thousands of others; leaves that shiver,
fall then scatter through the woods,
meld down to rot, to mulch for more
generations than can ever be counted.
