Another November ramble, this time in Gloucestershire, as our poet Anthony Watts follows a snakeskin path into twilight-textured harmonies of Delius, on Day 706 of the Daily Poems …
Bircham Wood
November floats its colours on the void
a hologram
a basket of light
love’s fragile dream suspended in the nothingness
I follow the snakeskin path bespeckled
with birchleaves
enough that it should go
deeper and deeper into everlasting
autumn
those last few bars of Delius
over the twilight-textured harmonies
a lingering motif
the heart unwilling
to relinquish its desire or the mind its hold
or the body its song
