Day 746 – The portals of discovery (Dempsey)

Today is Day 746 of the Daily Poems, and our poet Dónall Dempsey observes, to quote James Joyce, from Scylla and Charybdis, “A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery.”  Joyce implied that there were no mistakes in his writing, – just artistic brilliance that opened the doors of the mind.  Dónall acknowledges a  minor misquote, and also gives Beckett a look-in.

The portals of discovery

seems like
I am a success
at being a failure

and then it is
that I hear
Beckett’s voice in my ear

“Ever tried.
Ever failed.
No matter.

Try again.
Fail again.
Fail better”

and sure
doesn’t auld Jimmy
Joyce chime in

with his
“mistakes
are the portals of discovery.”

thanks guys I say
glad that they always
have my back
