Day 827 – Skylark at 10 o’clock (Hopkirk)

In our small garden this morning the blackbird is collecting wisps of this and that for a nest.  Yesterday our poet Colin Hopkirk took a long walk across the fields, where a skylark “was giving it some beans!” he says.  It is Day 827 of the Daily Poems.

Skylark at 10 o’clock

a hundred feet
and rising
sings a river
announces spring
declares his territory
rippling
across open fields
really going for it
meaning it
(such self belief!),
trip-switched by light
the position of stars
