Day 590 – Blurred Allotment Man (W Kennedy)

It is Day 590 of the daily poems, and our theme of Summer has just about run its course – with the grand total of 65 new poems in all.  That is quite something.  And to finish the theme, our poet Walter Paul Kennedy glides past a shimmering horticulturist, seeing him through a summer haze …

Blurred Allotment Man

Blurred Allotment Man
He grows what he can
From out of focus cucumbers
To fuzzy marjoram

You can see him with his herbs
Savouring their smells
He’s a horticulturist
Who wants to grow so well

Blurred Allotment Man
You can call him Stan
Though that might smart him
As his name is Martin

In Summer, when the sun comes up
You’ll see him standing there
Staring into another world
Of sadness and despair

Blurred Allotment Man
He grows what he can
From shimmering parsnips
To hazy tarragon

Let us raise our hats to him
As we glide by on the tram
