Day 741 – Catflap (Gorgonius)

Yesterday a monstrous dog, today – on Day 741 of the Daily Poems – our poet Gorgonius meets a strange cat.  A cat that finds a useful portal for itself …

Catflap

The strange cat came in through the catflap
on a grey afternoon

The strange cat sauntered in and jumped
lazily on to the sofa

The strange cat sat like a lord on the sofa
and contemplated its new surroundings

The strange cat had a Roman nose
which made it seem disdainful

After three days I put the strange cat out
and secured the catflap

A month later I visited a friend in the village
and in her front room the strange cat was settled on the sofa

The lady asked me if I knew
the strange cat which had taken up residence with her

O no I said I do not know the cat
it is a such a strange looking cat

I have never come across
such a strange looking cat in my life

I said I would have recognised
such a strange cat

And for the third time I said
but no I do not know it

That was the moment I heard in the distance
a cock crow
